10.10am; saturday

i had a terrible week trying to work through my torts essay. i spent ages on it and found myself sleeping at 4 and trying to get myself up for school the next day. and as i fell behind on readings the lecturers remind me of just how many weeks left we have to the exams. i catch people talking to each other and hear snippets of their conversation- "my exam notes aren't nearly ready!". bloody brilliant. i haven't even settled my reading notes and people are already starting on their exam notes.

then came friday, armed with 3 hours of sleep and a bagful of library boks due to be returned, me and venetia set off for clayton to hand in my assignment and we then drove ourselves for the next 3 hours to marysville. ok so it was supposed to take 1 and a half hours but brouchures lie. they don't take into account traffic conditions, many u-turns for missed exits and bad map readers like me. heh. the drive was fantastic- the selover lookout.. the woods we drove through, it was one of those long and winding roads *cue for beatles' song to play* with trees on either side that engulfed us that went on for a good hour. after a bit it got annoying but all was good. we decided to find an empty grass patch and have lunch after not finding steavenson falls. we walked around the town laughing like mad gits, realising that we'd never survive in the wilderness/ outback.

when you stand in the middle of nowhere (literally) an incredible quietness shrouds you.. punctuated only by the squawking birds and rustling leaves. the crisp eucalyptus scented air inundates you, and everything that has been bothering me the whole week dissipates with the lilting breeze that runs through my hair.

it got dark pretty early. and by the time we were done walking/driving around we realised it was too dark to trek our way to steavenson falls. we figured that it'd be a tad too dangerous to walk into the woods at dusk and so we were relegated to standing still for a few moments listening to the gushing waters of the waterfall that i imagined to be a fairly high one, cascading with white water that crashed into the water below setting out ripples that extended as far as the embankments would allow. of course i'll never know but well, it doesn't matter, sometimes knowing and believing is quite enough.

ah stoker's pancakes! heh. there was this fire place in the middle that made good company for us girls. i was feeling seafood-ish but venetia decided that savoury pancakes made good dinner and camembert and cranberry pancakes sure did! billie holiday and ella fitzgerald played in the back while we feasted on dinner and when we felt sleepy and satiated enough, we drove back to the city. it's good to get away from the city and detoxify out in the wilderness. oh, i can't wait till fallscreek in july. i bet i'll fall on my ass too many times but skiing should be quite fun, yes?

"So many times I wonder where I've gone
And how I found my way back in
I look around awhile for something lost
Maybe I'll find it in the end

And I'm feelin' the same way all over again
Feelin' the same way all over again
Singin' the same lines all over again
no matter how much i prentend"
-feelin' the same way, norah jones
