I finally watched the hottest state with fran and it was achingly poignant and raw. And while it was a really good movie, it was the theatre in all its grandeur of greek statues, roman pillars and old time quality that really made it such a great night. Sitting in the audience, it felt as if we were all there to watch a performance rather than a random movie. i would love to catch more films but there just isn't enough time, sigh.

And with winter also comes the "melbourne masterpieces". I'm not a big fan of contemporary art but as the docent brought us around the gallery explaining each piece of work, it became such a sensory and tactile experience. There was so much more to abstract expressionism or the seemingly superficial shocking works as each piece was meticulously explained. It was really good to finally see some of rothko and pollock's works but I must admit that nothing quite takes my breath away like the impressionists and the dutch masters.

"but you'll never reach the end of the road
while you're travelling with me"
- don't dream it's over, crowded house
