saturday; 4.08pm

a couple of us went to the ila legal careers dinner at the melb zoo and for a moment i thought it'd be all rustic and safari-like, freezing our arses off but thank god there was a lovely marquee and dinner tables set up. all the bigwigs were there from allens, corrs, mallesons, allen & overy to accounting firms like PWC, KPMG, deloittes. The ACCC and vic legal aid were also there and although there wasn't any moment of epiphany, i was still really glad i went.

I'm clearer of what my options are and perhaps more importantly, realised that it was alright to be uncertain. The Dean told of stories of how a judge having been appointed to the bench accepted the position but then left to pursue other things only to be reinstated to the bench many years later. There were also personal stories of solicitors/ barristers who found their calling only after many different experiences. And as the evening drew to a close, I somehow found myself giving my conflicts of law lecturer a ride home (along with fran, rach and amna) and it was absolutely reassuring talking to her and made the night all the more worth it. I think I'm okay, now, with not knowing exactly what to do. But i know i have to give private il a (good) shot and keep researching to make the best informed choice i can.

it's been an incredibly busy week and the new position at oxfam is giving me further pressure. i also spent an entire afternoon filling out applications for the castan centre global internships and it's amazing how draining churning out cover letters can be. int'l trade law is going to start next week and i have to get my research paper for conflicts going. it's getting really tiring but i have a feeling it's going to be worth it.

a world with no more night"
