It's funny how things turn out sometimes. I was on my way to uni today to do some work for Vis when I ran into trouble with the car lift which left me stranded in the building and unable to drive to uni. I called Elena, rearranged plans and decided to spend the day out together since she's leaving/moving to the Goldcoast. We went out for brunch on bridge rd at the Richmond Hill Lander. The food was great, weather gorgeous and we walked off brunch shopping along the store-line streets.

We hopped onto the tram back to the city and stopped by the book sale opposite the ACMI and browsed through for a bit while basking in the warm sunshine that had been sorely lacking with the rainy days of late

I then heard a marching band along swanston st and was met with a parade/ march of sorts by the salvation army. We just stood by the roadside watching banners with messages of "fair trade", "no slavery" and "peace". And with the hubub of it being election day today, it was nice to see something other than political propoganda.

We walked on and noticed that the city was decked out in christmas reverie, even if it was only november. The Myer window display was in place, the huge christmas tree by collins street was up and a blanket of stars stretched across bourke street from building to building and sparkled in the glare of the sun. After all that walking, we stopped by a patisserie for afternoon tea and decadent deserts.

We stopped by big w on our way back and decided to look through their dvd sale and Elena loves old movies too so we hunted down an affair to remember, casablanca, a place in the sun and talked about cary grant, deborah kerr, elizabeth taylor and spoke endlessly of how everything seemed better then. On our way out, we got fairy lights and spent the evening twining them on my balcony.

With all that work (Vis/ oxfam/ research work/ thesis writing) getting absolutely overwhelming, I really needed to spend a spring day outdoors leisurely with great company. Because sometimes that's all you need.

But before the night is done
I just have to hear those sweet words
spoken line a melody"
