where the light is.

I've been up to plenty which is good and as tiring it all is, there's this sense of being that reminds me that I'm doing as much as I can and hopefully not being idle too much.

I have been real lucky at the new firm- being given good work and invaluable experience even if I'm still in the midst of getting admitted. I'm working on a massive case in a team which has 3 partners (one of whom runs the practice group) and a junior lawyer. We get to brief QCs and SCs and I am still blown away every time I hear the QC (who used to sit on the federal court bench) throw ideas around because they're always brilliant and I can't help but be astounded in the presence of awesomeness. Haha. But most of all, my opinion and work is valued.

I watched
Wicked and the satirical take on the Wizard of Oz. During the intermission, people got green oz-mopolitans which seemed like such a hoot! And while the Broadway musical did not disappoint, the melbourne theatre company's production of a Cat on a Hot Tin Roof did. It was such a shame because I was really looking forward to it but it only turned out to be agonisingly painful for the most part. Admittedly, whatever was staged would invariably be compared to the performance by elizabeth taylor and paul newman but even so, I could not help myself from cringing at maggie the cat.

At dinner the other day with a couple of friends, we had mentioned that we should have a weekend of our version of R&R- retro and riding. We definitely got the first bit out of the way with a night out with retro music- much to the chagrin of leila and mei but I loved it! I can't wait to get to the riding bit once the weather gets warmer.

Speaking of riding, when some of us girls spent a weekend at Daylesford a couple of weeks ago, Rach and me spent a good part of saturday arvo horse riding through the bush and it was so good to ride through the trails spotting the wildlife (wallabies!) and rising to the trot in absolute synchronicity with your horse. I can't wait to go out to the country soon.

And then there was the hubbub that came with law ball but it was seeing the vissies that was so good. Some of us vissies met the other night for Indian food in Chinatown and couldn't help but flit from one conversation to another, never really finishing one topic before haphazardly moving onto the next one. And so over our paneer and naan, we filled each other in and eventually allowed ourselves to be convinced by Jen who insisted we had to go to Charlatans- a karaoke bar. And before I knew it, the DJ was announcing my name because Jen had put in a song request and (falsely) told them it was my birthday. I made my way to the stage with Jen in tow and sang our rendition of
Total Eclipse of the Heart. And so, as we did in the clubs in HK, along the riverbanks of the Seine in Paris and atop the Prater in Vienna- the both of us belted like we always did.. the song that stuck with us since Aireys Inlet.

Through it all, I've managed to settle in quite nicely to the new place in Northcote and it feels very much like home. I'm one street away from High St and have started exploring the little cafes and glorious looking stores and once fasting is over, Mim (my housemate) and me will do Sunday brunches together. I guess the High St Northcote Festival was one big initiation into it all with great street music (love the moonhops!) and art works.

There's been heaps more that have kept me busy but I finally find myself on a quiet night in. But at the same time, there has been yet another spanner thrown into the works. I will try to find my footing and I'm doing my best to keep positive because things have generally been great and surely that is something to be thankful for. But it seems the best thing sometimes is to write those long letters that we always have and have your fears and worries assuaged.
