Sometimes I wonder where all the time has gone. The summer heat has faded quickly into the autumn browns and with truly cold weather this weekend, I know the Melbourne winter has fully set in. There has been a bit of an upheaval the last couple of weeks but I must say that I am extremely glad for the people who have been there. For that, I am grateful.

A friend took me to the opera last night and I thoroughly enjoyed it. We watched ''The Threepenny Opera" at the Malthouse Theatre and it was absolutely amazing. After the gunfire on stage, the singing and us braving the cold wintry night to make our way to Chapel St, we caught up, shared laughs and nachos.

That's the thing with friends, they stand steadfast behind you in the worst of times, even those you may not have expected to. Some are better at listening than others but they are all there to sit next to you and just be there. And so, despite the circumstances, I am glad for those ferry boat rides to Manly, Saturday afternoon lunches or the long emails that come from across the world.

So thank you.
