There is nothing better for the soul than good food and excellent company.

I had dinner at Nobu Friday night . Their signature grilled cod miso was beautiful and how the three of us managed to chow down a tarte tartin, creme brulee and chocolate profiteroles at Bistro Guillaume after, I'll never know. But I was glad for the impromptu dessert detour because the bistro had a great feel to it and I am already thinking about going back there for a proper meal. I was ready to curl in bed under the covers after a meal like that but I managed to haul myself to Alice's going away drinks. I hadn't seen most of the Vissies since well before I left for The Hague/Paris and it was so good to see the lot of them again, all of us rugged up on a wintry night with the soothing voice of JM in the background. The endless chatter did however mean that we were kicked out of the place because we had clearly hung around for too long. It was one of those comforting nights that made you so glad it was finally Friday because you had everyone to look forward to.

Saturday was low key. It was spent driving up to Daylesford/Hepburn Springs with a couple of friends who I had not seen in ages. I forget how driving along winding roads and watching the skies change from a bright blue lined with silver clouds to red hues as the afternoon ears on calms me down - it clears my head and helps me think. We scored dinner reservations at the only available restaurant (who knew country restaurants could be so hard to get into?).

On the drive back to Melbourne, I sat in the back seat of the car, withered like a flower against the window with my head askew looking up to the night sky. The stars were sparkling - something I rarely get to see in the city with the bright lights and sky scrapers. Before I knew it, I dozed off and awoke to Bing Crosby on the car stereo and back in the city.

I'll spend the rest of today with my book before meeting a friend for an afternoon walk with a friend scouring food finds. Oh how I desperately needed a weekend like this. I may just be on the mend.

Just a great figure eight or a tiny infinity"
