Last night, my sister got married to a fabulous man. The wedding was perfect, intimate, beautiful and filled with love and tradition. Everyone was happy and there was so much fun to be had. I am so overwhelmed with happiness and love for my sister. This was the speech I gave as maid of honour -
Most if not all of us here have known my sister in some capacity. As for me, I've grown up with her and so have pretty much seen it all. Dahlia has paved the way for me. In school she played netball which meant I did too, of course. I would also borrow her clothes all the time which drove her completely insane. I think she was glad I finally grew to be taller than her so I wouldn't fit into her clothes!
My point is, she always seemed cooler, funnier and better, to me. I suspect all those adoring qualities in my sister is what Kamal sees in her. She has always been there for me, save for the time she forgot about me and left me behind in school when I was 8 years old.
But through it all, she, more than any person I know has taught me the value and meaning in learning to enjoy life, to make mistakes and to seek those things that make you happy. And of course, she is one of the few people who I can call even if I am on the other side of the world to ask if a pair of Ferragamo patent peep toes would be a classic shoe worth getting. As I see her here today, looking absolutely radiant and gorgeous I know that she is getting what she deserves because she has been so great at trying hard and fighting for the things she believes in, never however compromising her sense of self. I wish her and Kamal every happiness and a very long marriage filled with laughter, couture for my Sis, and know they will be better people because they have each other.
