Every year, summer seems to slip by more quickly and as much as I love watching the leaves turn brown and into gold, the last couple of years seem to bring a tinge of sadness as the warm summer air gives way to the cool breeze of autumn.

I watched The Great Gatsby tonight, the one with Robert Redford and Mia Farrow.  Like Jay Gatsby who looked out across the bay waiting for Daisy till the summer passed, I sometimes feel like some things won't come my way.

But it would be remiss of me to forget how wonderful this summer was.  It was the summer I got back into sailing, roamed Melbourne's street at White Night out, cooked for friends, watched the Australian Ballet's rendition of Don Quixote, attended fashion week and even learned how to play golf for the first time.  There was plenty of laughs shared, eating way too much and discovering new things and people.  But it feels like in a moment's instance, it has gone, like it never happened.  I wish it'd linger on.

"Like painted kites, those day and nights went flying by
The world was new beneath the blue umbrella sky
Then softer than a piper man, one day it called to you
I lost you to the summer wind"
- Summer Wind, Frank Sinatra
