Thursday, 3.55am

I can't sleep and have been tossing and turning the last couple of hours.  I had an appointment with my orthopaedic surgeon yesterday and things don't look good with my ankle.  I ended up having a cortisone injection to calm things down.

Most days I manage well and keep it all in but sometimes, I find myself tired of it all - apart from dealing with the ongoing pain in my ankle, there are still the Xrays, appointments, managing the referred pain in my right lower back and hip, the diligence required to do my physio exercises or limiting how I socialise or exercise because of the bouts of (often intense) pain I experience.

I am trying to be optimistic because obviously there are far worse things in life.  I get that.  But with a degenerative ankle, I know as hard as things were today, this is as good as it will get.  With time, it will only deteriorate further.  Tomorrow, I will be fine and there will be none of this wallowing but for now allow me a moment to just be.

Was the hardest part"
