A JOURNAL

About Rose:
I grew up in Singapore, lived in Melbourne but currently call London home. I love gastronomic adventures, especially while travelling. I stated writing at 17 to remember how it all began.

I don't think I have ever gone this long without writing. But nothing about the last 15 months have been typical or usual. For me, it has been gruelling putting in more hours at work than I ever have but it has somewhat been worthwhile having now been promoted to Legal Director. While it has certainly been a milestone and reaffirmed my aspirations towards partnership, it has also urged me to reevaluate what matters most - building a happy future with my loved ones, prioritising my well-being and appreciating how I have definitely been luckier than most.

What has helped is the past few months where life has somewhat returned to normal. In the Spring, we ventured to Scotland yearning to bask in some warmth and sunshine by Loch Ness. The weather was stunning and it was a treat to walk the green of the 18th hole at St Andrews, wander the grounds of Gleneagles, roam the halls of Dalhousie Castle and enjoy oysters on a sunny afternoon overlooking Loch Fyne.

When we returned to London life seemed to revolve around sports - first with cricket at The Oval, then a glorious afternoon at Wimbledon before witnessing the crushing defeat of the Three Lions at the Euro final. It was also a time to rediscover London which involved wandering through Greenwich on my birthday and spending what felt like lost time with friends in the garden over many a barbecue.

With Summer in full swing and fully vaccinated, we made our way to Greece. We sailed the Aegean Sea and jumped into its cool waters to escape the heat of the summer, found loukoumades that had us coming back for more in Chania, unraveled a piece of history in Heraklion, enjoyed spectacular views in Santorini and brought a piece of Crete home with us when I found the most delightful ceramics in Plakias.

I hope that it won't be long before I find myself back in Singapore and to see family after a year and a half. I am keeping my fingers crossed that my ILR application goes well, my Singapore passport renewal goes off without a hitch and that there is the much needed progress I have been yearning for in my relationship. Things are never easy but the last 15 months have taught me to be grateful and patient. It doesn't always work but I can certainly try.
