sometimes an entire year passes you by and on the very last day of that year, you sit back and think that it has been pretty unremarkable. but you hesistate for a moment and look through the photos that you made sure you took because those memorable moments are far too fleeting.

i've managed to get my best semester yet earlier this year and i guess the second semester was alright save for the feeling of being jaded. but the second half of the year was really spent winding down and coming into my own as i turned 21. i have figured out exactly what i want to do as soon as i finish law school and i know i'll love it. and for me, the sense of certainty of knowing what and where i'm heading for and being able to assess it is incredibly assuring.

but then on the flipside, i was thrust into the ambivalence in my trips and experiences that i find terribly unnerving. from climbing glaciers in new zealand, taking my first shot at surfing, precariously climbing loose rocks and gravel on the great wall of china and white water rafting through river valleys in christchurch, it was overwhelming and breath taking. i was scared shitless each time, thinking i could drown or slip off the face of a cliff. but it didn't turn out so bad in the end, in fact it was great. thing is, i've figured out more and more that it all falls squarely upon me to make things happen. i have to thrust myself into situations i'd never dream myself in and despite all that fear and worries, hope like hell it turns out okay.

there'll be things i can be certain for sure will be great, screaming my lungs out at coldplay and john mayer concerts or just as ecstatic at the top of the roller coaster before it plunges down (remember nic?) or even winter skating. and there will also be people i find comfort in, friends and family alike. but for the most part, it's always about giving things a shot (where it matters), despite how uneasy and uncomfortable it makes me feel because even if i'm met with disappointment, it'll be worth it. maybe i won't figure out why it was worth it just yet but when i do, i'll know.

i can't say that it's been the best year of my life because you can't compare certain things. i am however resolved to remain close to those dear to me and be thankful for everything that i have been privileged to. so thank you, for making it worth it.
