A call from Kin and I was alerted that the case concerning sovereignty over Pedra Branca/ Pulau Batu Puteh has just commenced at the ICJ. Apart from the the further political animosity that is surely to ensue, it should be really interesting when all the submissions are in. Oh and Ian Brownlie (!!) is, among many others, representing Singapore. I had to read his book when I was doing public international law and international organizations so I'm a little awe struck (geeking-out here, don't mind me) because his book was just really good and very thought provoking. Anyway, I can't wait to see how it all unfolds- legal issues aside, singapore vs malaysia... it's invoking very strange patriotic feelings just like the Malaysia cup days. heh. click here for ICJ record of the public sitting on 7th Nov or here for a news article on it.

they slither wildly as they slip away
