The long weekend has come and gone, and with it him too. Things are bittersweet and I am trying to be as positive as I can. I told him we seem to constantly meet and part at train stations/airports. For me, it feels like I'm halfway between a Cary Grant-Deborah Kerr "An Affair to Remember" flick and Noel Coward's "Brief Encounter". But that's how I'd put it. Ask him and he'd probably say "it's cool".

That's the thing, we couldn't be more different in so many ways. But he'll make a genuine attempt to sit through Casablanca (we made a third of the way through) and spend a day in Giverny because he knows I love the Impressionists, even if he doesn't. We have thoughtful conversations and push each other on. I think we're pretty aware why us being together in a relationship won't work but also know we're still very important to each other. He'll break into a funny (read: embarrassing) act as my train pulls away from the platform just so the last time we see each other, we're both laughing.

I could go on but he simply makes me happy and, he would agree, we have a blast when we're together. I want everything for him - to be happy, to fall in love and have the kids he talked about, make it big with his entrepreneurial idea and travel the world. We've promised that we'll cross off more countries from the list together come what may. It's a different kind of commitment but one we've said we'll see through even if life changes for us. In the meantime, the passage of time will soothe this dull ache.

"Just in time
I'm so glad you have a one track mind like me
you gave my life direction
a game show love connection you can't deny"
